NETWORK

Kansas City datacenter is fed by redundant fiber feeds from American Fiber Systems, Cogent, Level 3 (via Unite Fiber Systems) and HE. We utilize Foundry routers and switches in a parallel redundant design eliminating any one point of failure. All network connectivity originates in the restricted-access networking room and travels along a vast network of cat 5e cable supported by ceiling mounted ladder racking.

POWER

Our Kansas City datacenter is fed by three power components critical to datacenter infrastructure.

The primary power supply comes from utility power supplied by Kansas City Power & Light. Designated a critical infrastructure building, Kansas City Power & Light provides three power feeds to the facility. These feeds are connected in parallel and each draws from a different independent power grid.

Secondary and temporary power is supplied by UPS battery systems in the power room. We have sufficient UPS battery strength to assure continuity of power to the entire colocation and dedicated server facility. In addition, a separate UPS system maintains all critical networking infrastructure.

Third and final backup power comes from a 400 kilowatt diesel generator. Fuel access points on the ground level of the building allow us to refuel the generator tanks at any time. The generator can be run indefinitely to supply power to the facility.

Due to the multiple power grids coming into the building, this facility has never lost utility power. However, in the event of loss of utility power, the automatic transfer switch moves the power source from utility to diesel generator. The UPS systems supply temporary power during the time required for the generator to fire up.

SECURITY

Access within the facility is controlled by hand scanner. In addition, each time you access the hand scanner a picture of your face is taken. This is to prevent coercive entry by a third party. Once you exit the elevator your only options will be the fire stairs or to get back on the elevator. If you're authorized, you will be able to enter the main hallway of the facility. From there, your options are limited by access. Each door, with the exception of the bathroom, requires a valid hand scan and PIN for entry. Customers who have purchased unattended colocation service will be scanned into the system and given access to the following areas: main hallway, unattended colocation room and bathroom.

There are more than twenty cameras in the facility. Cameras monitor every row of the dedicated server room, the entire breadth of the colocation room, the power room and the hallways. There are also surveillance cameras in the elevator lobby. All video is recorded and kept for an undisclosed duration. Video evidence of any theft, arson, destruction of property or other illegal activity will be given to the proper authorities.

For your safety, our safety and the safety of the equipment, a trained staff member actively carries a firearm.
